When perusing various snack choices at their local convenience store, consumers often turn their eyes upon packaged meat products. While chips and candy have their place, many customers turn to jerky or sausages over sugar-loaded treats for their protein packed nature.

Other consumers choose meat snacks because they’re simply delicious! In any case, jerky is a major snack product for gas stations and c-stores alike and it’s one you should capitalize on.

Self-serve pizza sales are on the rise. This is good news for convenience store owners! While offering a selection of ready-made pizza does take a little more prep work and space, the profitability is unparalleled.

Here’s a little insider information: lottery sales are a big revenue generator for c-stores and gas stations alike. Shocking, right? For most stores, lottery sales represent between 10%-15% of their total sales. That’s a pretty big number, considering the average commission on winning tickets is around 6%.

For some stores, that percentage of sales is even higher. Which is why there’s good news on the horizon for lottery retailers, especially in the Big Apple.

They say “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” That strategy has served McDonald’s for a long time. But as the world changes, and customer demands evolve; even the fast food giant has to sit up and take notice. To that end, McDonald’s is modernizing its service.

Businesses of all types thrive on a present and attentive workforce. In the service and retail industry, however, managing staff can be a challenge. Unfortunately, your C-store is both! Whether helping customers to purchase lottery tickets, or managing a morning rush: your staff is important to your bottom line.

However, the industry is prone to suffering from last-minute staff cancellations.

One demographic that often gets missed in the convenience store world is the college crowd. Often looked over due to misnomers about a “lack of disposable income,” students are large contributors to the success of convenience stores within proximity to their dorms and apartments.

Let’s face it: there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to running a convenience store. Between all the vendors, distributors, and various company reps, sometimes it’s amazing that you find time to do anything else.

Navigating the challenges of working with suppliers and distributors can be an exercise in futility. However, they don’t have to be. Here are some ways you can manage these tasks effectively, and keep your sanity in check!
